May 2006

Dessert will be sweeter at One Eleven Chop House, 111 Shrewsbury St., from May 8-14, 2006, when all proceeds from the sale of tiramisu will be donated to the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund.

Executive Chef Stefano Zimei of Leominster has raised funds for the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund in past years by participating in Boston Bakes For Breast Cancer while serving as Executive Chef for some of Bostons most celebrated restaurants.

He wanted to bring the Boston event to Worcester and co-owners Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist agreed to support what they believe to be an important cause.

Boston restaurants have participated in this important fundraiser every year since it was founded in 1991, Madeleine Ahlquist said. Its time to expand it into the Worcester area. While One Eleven Chop House is the only Worcester restaurant participating this year, we hope that others will join us in years to come.

Other participating restaurants are primarily from Boston, but also include a few restaurants on Cape Cod and as far west as Southboro.

Its important to use whatever talents you have to help make a difference in some way, Zimei said. Its always been gratifying to me to participate in Boston Bakes For Breast Cancer.

Zimei joined One Eleven Chop House last year after serving as Executive Chef of Sidneys Grille at the Hotel@MIT. Before that, he headed up such notable and celebrated kitchens as those at Gallia in Bostons South End; The Federalist, at Bostons boutique XV Beacon hotel; Aquitaine the South Ends Parisian bistro, and The Rowes Wharf restaurant at The Boston Harbor Hotel. He was awarded gold, silver and bronze medals at the New York Food Show; a gold medal at Spinazzola Boston, and a silver medal at the 126th Salon of Culinary Arts. He also received Bostons Best Appetizer Award from the Boston Phoenix and second prize at Bertollis, Top 10 Sous Chefs Contest.

Tiramisu, which sells for $6.99, is an Italian-style soft cheese cake made with marscapone cheese, and lady fingers soaked in rum and coffee, and served with a chocolate sauce.

The Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to bringing awareness to the issues surrounding breast cancer through education and fundraising. Funds raised are used for breast cancer research, education and treatment initiatives in the Breast Oncology Center at the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The fund was started by Marjie Brownman Shapiro and Carol Brownman Sneider with help from friends and relatives to honor their mother, who died of breast cancer in 1973 at age 44.

One Eleven Chop House, which offers elegant dining in a setting that resembles a New York steakhouse, has won numerous awards, including being named best restaurant by Worcester Magazine in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004, and best steakhouse every year since 2001. It has been named the best steakhouse and best fine dining restaurant by the Telegram & Gazette every year since 2001. It has earned Wine Spectators Award of Excellence every year since 2001. It serves 175,000 meals a year serving dinner only and has 85 full-time employees. The restaurants Web site is at www.111chophouse.com.
