The WBDC awarded the Robert S. Bowditch Economic Development Award to Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist, owners of three Worcester restaurants – the Sole Proprietor, One Eleven Chop House and Via. Mr. Forsberg said the Ahlquists have created thousands of jobs and invested heavily in the city while training a new generation of restaurateurs.

Chef named for VIA: The new Italian comfort food restaurant, VIA, which is scheduled to open in late March at 89 Shrewsbury St., now has a chef. Owners Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist announced that Roberto R. Dias has been named executive chef. Dias has lots of years behind him in many Boston restaurants, and most recently was the chef at The Sole Proprietor (which the Ahlquists also own).

KEVIN HUNT has been named general manager for a VIA, a new Italian restaurant scheduled to open in early April. Hunt began working for The Sole Proprietor in 1990 and most recently served as a manager at The Sole and is part of the senior management team for The Sole and One Eleven Chop House, both of which are also owned by the Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist, who also own VIA.

He washed dishes for about two weeks before it was evident that Stefano Zimei should be working with food. He was 14 years old, working at Cristina’s in Leominster, which was across the street from his childhood home. Since then, it was never a question that Zimei, who is now executive chef at the One Eleven Chop House, would be a chef.
